The Workshop · Benjamin Renoux

The man
It all began with a passion — the piano. Then with a reality — a performing career that did not develop as hoped. Then with maternal advice meant to be pragmatic: find a “real trade”.
A placement with a piano restorer in Chartres changed everything. What was meant to be a career change became a vocation.
I completed the piano technician training, then built my own path — a path few craftsmen have taken.
“Today, in Guebwiller, Alsace, my workshop brings together everything this exceptional craft demands: a traditional carpentry woodworking space, a spray booth and a showroom. I also acquired a large-format CNC milling machine, precise to a hundredth of a millimetre and capable of accommodating an entire piano.”
The Workshop
A traditional carpentry space, equipped for all structural work on instruments — from soundboards to piano cases.
Precise to a hundredth of a millimetre, capable of accommodating an entire piano. A rare asset in this trade, enabling the manufacture of parts otherwise impossible to obtain.
For impeccable finishes under controlled conditions.
Completed instruments can be presented and played here in conditions close to their final environment, before delivery to the commissioner.
Lutherie, voicing and mechanical regulation tools — accumulated and refined over twenty years of intensive practice across both disciplines.
In the heart of Alsace, at 25 rue du Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny. Accessible by appointment for clients, institutions and partners.
What builds my reputation across Europe does not lie in my machines. It lies in an absolute conviction, present in every gesture, every decision, every instrument that leaves the workshop.
It is this philosophy that guides every restoration, every build, every modernisation. And it is what my clients — concert pianists, conservatories, collectors — recognise and seek out.
“Whatever I do, whatever the instrument,
above all I seek the beauty of sound.”
