Restoration
Heritage
The French and European instrumental heritage includes among its finest pages instruments of incomparable musical richness — voices that time does not silence, provided one knows how to hear and preserve them.
Approach
Restoring a piano is far more than bringing it back into working order. It means understanding what it was, respecting what it is, and restoring its full expressive capacity — without betraying its soul.
I restore grand pianos of all eras, from 1800 to the present day. Each intervention is carried out with the rigour of a maker who builds his own instruments — an overall perspective gained through years of building, put at the service of restoration, guaranteeing absolute consistency between diagnosis and final result.
Types of intervention
Assessment of the structural, mechanical and sonic condition. Identification of necessary interventions and those best preserving the instrument's authenticity.
Restoration or reconstruction of actions using the workshop's tools, both manual and high-tech — CNC precise to 0.05 mm. To restore a worn action or remake broken or missing parts.
Structural repairs, regluing, reconstruction of original parts — in keeping with the wood species and glues in use in the instrument's era (no modern glue is used).
Restringing, soundboard work, assessment of bars — interventions carried out with the sensitivity of a craftsman attentive to the final sonic result.
Work on the instrument's voice — balance between registers, timbre restored as close as possible to the original, adaptation to the commissioner's requirements.
Restoration of the case, keyboard and pedals — according to the degree of authenticity desired by the owner or institution.
Restored instruments · 01
Concert grand from the Blüthner manufacture, 230 cm, vintage 1901. A prestigious instrument completely restored at the workshop — from the internal structure to the external finish, every element treated with the rigour of a full manufacture.
A distinctive feature: a new lid was made with Indian Rosewood veneer on the underside, giving the instrument an exceptional visual identity. The action has been reworked with restored period parts to suit the owner's needs.
Philosophy
“Whatever I do, whatever the instrument,
above all I seek the beauty of sound.”
