Building
an instrument

Building an instrument from its foundations to its voice — this is the founding act of the piano maker. In my workshop, each instrument is a unique commission, designed for its performer, built to an absolute standard where the craftsman's gesture and the precision of CNC complement each other in the service of the instrument.

Anton Walter — Viennese Classicism

It was a challenge set by a concert pianist that started everything. Since then, I have built more than ten instruments after Anton Walter, the defining Viennese maker of the pivotal period between Classicism and Romanticism — the era of Beethoven, Schubert and Mozart.

Every Walter is entirely Alsatian: capsules, hammers, actions, keyboard, wooden structure — everything comes from my workshop.

These instruments have joined conservatories, opera stages and the collections of demanding professional concert pianists. Some are made available for prestigious concerts.

Each instrument is fully customisable: wood species, finish, key width, action configuration — the instrument adapts to the performer, never the reverse.

Érard 1815

Sébastien Érard is one of the most important figures in the history of piano making. His square piano of 1815 represents a unique moment — an instrument at the crossroads of two eras, of rare musical sensitivity.

I am currently building a faithful facsimile, destined for a conservatory. An instrument that will, like all those that leave my workshop, be built entirely in Guebwiller.

Professional photographs and full specifications will be published at the official launch. For any enquiries, please contact the workshop directly.
